Carver Houses are public housing complexes located in East Harlem, New York City. They were built in 1957 and named after George Washington Carver, an American agricultural scientist and inventor. The complex consists of ten high-rise buildings with a total of 1,634 apartments.
Photos of Carver Houses depict the brick buildings with their uniform design and well-kept grounds. The housing units are mostly two- and three-bedroom apartments, with some studios as well. The interiors are basic but well-maintained, with functional kitchens and bathrooms. Some of the photos also show the community spaces available to residents, such as the playgrounds, basketball courts, and community rooms.
While the photos of Carver Houses show a relatively clean and organized living environment, the housing complex has faced its share of challenges over the years, including issues with safety and maintenance. However, efforts have been made to improve the conditions for residents, and programs such as the Carver Houses Community Farm have helped to create a sense of community and pride among the residents.
